Self Care

One of Dr. Danto's mentors, Phil Greenman, DO, is considered the 'father' of the "Exercise Prescription" for the specialty of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. The specifics of the Exercise Prescription congealed from a variety of influences for Dr. Greenman including Physical Therapy, European Manual Medicine and therapists, as well as Osteopathic Physicians, therapists, and many more. Dr, Greenman had promised a book on the Exercise Prescription for over decade, but it never developed which motivated Dr. Danto to write Normalization of Muscle Function to fill the void.

Exercise Prescription Making Headlines

On August 12, 2022 the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy published a meta-analysis (which roughly translates into a "super study") trying to pin down the most beneficial exercise treatment for chronic low back pain. The "mega study" contained over 18,000 patients. The results indicated that stretching alone was not very helpful in alleviating the back pain. However, the study found that exercise that emphasize motor control and stabilization training were very helpful. This is not surprising news to the many of us who utilize this approach in treatment. It is the foundation of the Exercise Prescription.
